HOT ISSUES- PRODUCT UPDATES
Shortly, you'll see two important updates to our video and rich media creative formats designed to help you earn more revenue from increased advertiser demand.
Video: Companion Banners Coming Soon! Companion banners are a new feature being added to our in-stream video
beta later this month, representing new revenue opportunities for publishers with video content. Companion banners are standard ad units (i.e. Medium Rectangles 300x250 or Leaderboards 728x90) synchronized with adjacent pre-roll or post-roll campaigns.
When available, the code will be compatible with publishers using their own video player or a third party licensed video player. In order for the ad code to be implemented, both the in-stream ad and the adjacent companion banner must be on the same page, all above the fold.
Rich Media: InVues to Get an Upgrade! ValueClick Media's InVue
ads are a proprietary rich media format that uses Javascript to allow ads to "float" onto the page from the left side of a user's screen. Today, it is only offered in a 250x250 size. Shortly, advertisers will have the ability to run this high-performing creative unit in a variety of sizes, giving you the opportunity to earn more revenue.
Stay tuned for more info on both of these enhancements!
Ad Exchanges: Hype or True Value?
iMediaConnection.com
By Chad Peplinski, VP Media Development for ValueClick Media
I appreciated Tom Hespos' article "Ad Exchanges... Is Now the Time?" because it's certainly a topic that is overdue for more public debate and education. Every ad placement model has its place in the online advertising ecosystem and Hespos raises some good points about the potential efficiencies and opportunistic buying afforded by exchanges.
So, is now the time for ad exchanges?
Yes. However, determining if an ad exchange is right for your needs requires a deeper understanding of how they work and the trade-offs between exchanges and traditional ad networks.
In April we were proud to sponsor the 10th Annual ad:tech Awards.
The event, hosted by Susan Bratton and Geoff Ramsey, boasted over 30 awards and was attended by over a thousand people. The highlight of the evening was two incredible performances by Cirque du Soleil.
Congratulations to the nominees and winners of the 2007 ad:tech Awards!
ValueClick Media officially debuted The Performance Interviews series, with video spots appearing on two large screens throughout the evening's program. You can see the spots that played on stage, as well as the first of more than 50 interviews on our microsite.
Staying Above the Fold A common question we receive from new publishers is "What does above the fold mean?" with a follow-up question of "How does above the fold placement impact my earnings?" As described in our publisher agreement, above the fold is defined as the top 600 pixels of a Web site. Banners, Leaderboards, Skyscrapers and Wide Skyscrapers must be placed in this upper portion of the site while Medium Rectangles and Rectangles can appear below, as they are integrated directly within the content and not on the sides or bottom.
Ads above the fold result in better campaign performance for the advertiser which leads to higher eCPM's, greater fill and overall higher revenues.

Tell us about your site. Our site is a music search engine and social network. We help you locate and enjoy free and legal music throughout the Internet the same way Google helps you find web pages and images. Once you find music you like through our search engine, you can bookmark the track and create a streaming playlist to enjoy and share with friends.
How has ValueClick Media affected your business and/or business goals?
ValueClick Media was our initial advertising network and we have stayed with them since the beginning. They have been truly scalable, allowing us to grow and monetize our business without any trouble.
What account feature do you find the most valuable when viewing your ValueClick Media account? I like the floating defaults feature. When we get a direct advertising placement from an advertiser, we can put the ad directly into rotation and ValueClick Media takes care of everything.
What advice can you give other ValueClick Media publishers looking to maximize their ad revenue? To maximize ad revenue, its really important to find the "perfect" placements for your advertising. Putting an ad where it is not likely to be viewed or clicked, even if you get a flat CPM rate, does not help you or your advertisers and will negatively affect you in the long run.
